I remember my stepbrother and I went to go see "Top Gun, " 

whatever year that came out. 

And I remember we walked out of the mall, 

it was, like, blazing hot, 

I just looked at him, 

and we both felt that movie just like a calling from God. 

 

You know? Just ... 

But completely differently. 

Like, I wanted to be an actor. 

I was like, 

I've got to make something that makes people feel. 

I just want to be a part of that. 

And he wanted to be in the military. 

That's all we ever did was play FBI, 

play army man, play knights, you know, 

and I'd like, pose with my sword, 

and he would build a working crossbow that you could shoot an arrow into a tree. 

So he joins the army. 

Well, he just retired a colonel in the Green Berets. 

He's a multidecorated combat veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq. 

He now teaches a sail camp for children of fallen soldiers. 

He gave his life to his passion. 

His creativity was leadership, leading others, 

his bravery, to help others. 

That was something he felt called to do, 

and it gave back to him.

이복동생과 함께 "탑 건"을 보러 갔던 것을 기억합니다. 

언제 개봉했는지는 모르겠지만요. 

그리고 쇼핑몰에서 나왔을 때 

마치 타는 듯이 더운 날씨처럼 동생을 쳐다보았고 

저희 둘 다 그 영화를 신의 부름처럼 느꼈습니다. 

아시나요? 그냥요. 

하지만 완전히 달랐습니다. 

그러니까 배우가 되고 싶었습니다. 

사람들이 느낄 수 있는 무언가를 만들어야 한다고 생각했습니다. 

그저 일부분이 되고 싶었습니다. 

그리고 동생은 군인이 되고 싶어 했죠. 

저희는 온종일 FBI놀이, 군인 놀이를 했고 

중세 기사가 되어 검을 들고 자세를 취하곤 했습니다. 

 

동생은 실제로 작동하는 석궁을 만들었습니다. 

나무에 화살을 쏠 수 있는 거였죠. 

그래서 동생은 군대에 입대했고 

특전사 대령으로 전역했습니다. 

동생은 아프가니스탄과 이라크 전투에서 

여러 훈장을 받은 참전 용사입니다. 

현재는 전사한 군인들의 아이들을 위한 

항해 캠프를 가르치고 있습니다. 

그는 열정적으로 살았습니다. 

그의 창의력은 리더십이었습니다. 

다른 사람들을 이끄는 것 다른 사람들을 돕는 용감함입니다. 

그것이 해야 할 일이라고 느꼈고 

그것은 다시 동생에게 돌려주었습니다.
